SpiceJet

Spicejet is India’s second low-cost carrier, based at Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Its slogan is Flying for Everyone. The all-budget airline allows price-sensitive passengers to snap the lowest possible fares.

SpiceJet Airlines is a reincarnation of ModiLuft. Ajay Singh and Kansagra family promoted Spicejet. Later an American billionaire, Wilbur Ross, invested $80 million in the airline.

Kalanithi Maran, the Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Network, acquired a large stake in the airline in June 2010. The CEO of SpiceJet is Kishore Gupta.

Spicejet’s inception marks a revolution in Indian civil aviation industry. The airline introduced flying at Rs. 99 for the first 99 days. There are 9, 000 seats available for passengers. In addition the airline also launched Rs. 999 promotional scheme on the select routes. The reason rear to that was to give direct competition to Indian Railways, and provide opportunity of flying possible for everyone.

The primary hub of SpiceJet is Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport are the secondary hubs of Spice. Gurgaon,Haryana,is the corporate office of SpiceJet.

India’s second biggest low-cost carrier focuses on cities like Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune.

SpiceJet has a strong fleet size, including 22 Boeing 737-800 aircraft comprising Boeing 737-900ER with carrying capacity of 212 passengers at a time. The airline also put 37 Boeing 737-800 more planes on order.

Spicejet, India’s low-cost carrier spends money on passenger safety. They are using high-level of expertise. The airline is set in hiring experienced pilots, engineers and dedicated crew members.

The airline has been voted for the best low-cost airline in south Asia and central Asia in 2007.

Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific is the national air carrier of Hong Kong. It is the biggest airline of the country. Its main hub is Hong Kong International Airport. The airline operates a number of scheduled flights and cargo services, connecting more than 114 destinations across 36 countries worldwide.

Roy C. Farrell and Sydney H. de Kantzow founded Cathay Pacific on September 24th, 1946. The airline anticipates flying across the Pacific one day. It became the first airline in the world to have operated non-stop transpolar flight over the North Pole in 1998.

Swire Pacific and Air China are the major shareholders of Cathay Pacific.

The airline is one of the founding members of the OneWorld alliance. The Hong Kong-based carrier gets a Five-Star-Airline status.

Cathay is signed code-share agreement with a number of international airlines, including American Airlines, British Airways, Finnair, Japan Airlines and Qantas.

Along with Dragonair, Cathay operates more than 138, 000 flights, carrying nearly 25 million passengers and about 1.6 million tones of cargo and mail.

In addition, Cathay offers ‘Oneworld’ a travel programme to generate more value for customers, shareholders and employees.

Cathay makes an alliance of world’s three largest airlines with its Central Management team. Its name is Oneworld Management Company, based at Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada. The alliance membership depends on the frequent flyer programme.

American Airlines, British Airways, Canadian Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Qantas Airways together founded ‘OneWorld’ in 1999.

Cathay has bilateral relationships with Air China, Malaysia Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Aeroflot Russian International Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, and with the French rail operator SNCF as well.

Cathay awarded ‘Airline of the Year’ by Skytrax in 2009.

Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways is the national carrier of United Arab Emirates. It is based at Abu Dhabi, the capital of UAE.

The airline operates flights to the Middle East, Europe, North America, Far East, Africa, Oceania and Indian subcontinent. The airline invites travellers explore the world of travel from Dubai.

The slogan of Etihad Airlines is “from Dubai to the World”.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saif Al Nahyan and James Hogan established Etihad Airways in 2003. Later it started operations with Beirut flight, and further keeping hope of starting one new route per month. It accrued an initial capital of AED500 million.

Abu Dhabi International Airport is the main base of Etihad Airlines.

Etihad has signed code-share agreements with a number of airlines. The airline shares codes with Aer Arann, BMI, Bangkok Airways, Brussels Airlines, Iran Air, Jet Airways, Kuwait Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Middle East Airlines, Phillippine Airlines, Qantas, Royal Air Maroc, Sri Lankan Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines and Yemenia.

Along with successful passenger flight operations, the airline operates Etihad Crystal Cargo as well to 14 destinations worldwide. For that airline purchased two A300-600F cargo aircraft and one MD-11 cargo aircraft. However, it has put another slot of 210 aircraft on order. Its delivery is expected by 2011-2020.

Etihad Airways operates lounges worldwide. These lounges are free for Etihad Pearl Business and Diamond First Class passengers.

UAE’s national air carrier has won several awards since its started operations in 2003.

Skytrax has awarded Etihad Airways the four-star rating.

United Airlines

United Airlines is the flagship carrier of the United States of America and a subsidiary of UAL Corporation. It is the world’s third largest airline by revenue-passenger-miles. The airline is the fourth largest airline by total passengers transported.

United Airlines was established on March 28th, 1931.

The corporate office the airline is 77 West Wacker Drive in the Chicago Loop, Chicago, US.

The airline launched the “First Modern Frequent Flyer” programme in May 1981. In 1998, United, along with Delta Airlines, introduced a marketing partnership plan for giving reciprocal redemption between SkyMiles and Mileage Plus programmes and sharing lounges. These two airlines also attempted to forge a code-share agreement.

O ‘Hare International Airport is the primary hub of United Airlines. The secondary hubs of the airlines are Denver International, Washington Dulles, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

United Airline operates more than 550 flights departure daily, connecting over 1,000 destinations across 170 countries worldwide. The airline has global presence in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean.

United Airlines is the only US’s airline that serves all the fifty states of the country It launched service to Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, Little Rock, Fargo, Casper, Jackson and Charleston.

Over 48, 000 employees serve United Airlines. There are more than 359 aircraft in operations. The airline has put 292 regional jet aircraft on orders, including 38 Embraer EMB 170’s and 100 Bombardier CRJ700’s.

The airline includes McDonnell Douglas DC-10and several Boeing aircraft, Boeing 727, the Boeing 727-200, Boeing 767 and Boeing 777.

The national carrier is based at Chicago. The airline offers international first lounges at Chicago-O’Hare, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, New York-JFK, San Francisco, Tokyo-Narita and Washington-Dulles. The airline operates Red Carpet Club, which includes 35 lounges across 28 major airports around the world.

United Airlines is the co-founding member of the Star Alliance with Air Canada, Lufthansa, SAS and Thai Airways.
