Trade Unions stir up 24-hour nationwide strike

24-hour nationwide strike has been called by Trade Unions today. The protest is against price rise, violation of labour laws and disinvestment of PSUS on a national scale. Almost two months after BJP’s Bharat (India) Bandh, yet another countrywide wallop is set to hit life of two Left-ruled states - Kerala and West Bengal only.

Price rise

Road and air transport are most likely to be disrupted. Flight operations to and from Kerala’s capital Trivandrum and Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal, was crippled as private airlines including Kingfisher Airlines, Jet Airways, SpiceJet together cancelled nearly 80 scheduled flights.

However, India’s largest and oldest carrier AI (Air India) still dares operating its scheduled daily normally.

But passengers flying to and from both the cities can face difficulty in getting vehicles, including auto-rickshaws and buses.
